The RPG & DB2 Summit - Fall 2017

In October, IBM i development pros enthusiastically convened in Minneapolis, intent on studying the latest IBM i development techniques.

This group kept us smiling through the entire week. Check out the photo gallery for a pictorial tour of activities.

It felt as much like a family reunion as a week of intensive learning. In addition to meeting new Summit family members, we honored 6 "Super Alumni" — those who have attended five or more events. Congratulations to Dan, Dave, David, Vicki, Tammy and Le Ann!

Several ISVs joined us to share tips on tools and technology, entertaining us with 30-second introductions via song, verse, cheers and other antics. A seriously disappointed Paul stood by with his mallet at the ready, grumbling at the lack of opportunity to gong people off stage.

Buzzing with energy, everyone worked at increasing their knowledge and productivity. Barbara got so excited about teaching that she had to slow herself down by exchanging jokes with her class.

IBM's DB2 for i Architect, Scott Forstie, filled us in on the latest DB2 for i enhancements. Other new topics? Python, SQL aggregation, calling Watson from RPG, and an open source roundtable.

On Tuesday evening, some fairly funny-looking characters showed up for the reception. After sharing dinner and lots of prizes, we gathered around the piano while Ted and Mike treated us to several songs. A new Summit tradition? We hope so!

Other favorite Summit traditions include the Summit family photo and Ted Holt's special way of kicking off the final session. This time, Ted and his ukulele joined forces with Alan Seiden to bring us their IBM i rendition of the Beatles' classic With a Little Help from My (i) Friends.

Thanks to all of our guest speakers - Scott Klement, Barbara Morris, Ted Holt, Alan Seiden, Mike Pavlak, Liam Allan, Tom McKinley, Robert Bestgen, Hernando Bedoya and Scott Forstie for sharing their expertise with all of us once again.
